Rowy is a scheme in which the players start with only one single ammo of each weapon, but only one weapon will be unlocked per turn (due to progressive delays), following the weapons order, from top left to bottom right (as if reading a text). It is a ruled game: players must use the oldest available weapon of the unlocked ones. It is played on (specially designed) big maps.

Rules

Short

  1. Always use the top left weapon
  2. Two Full-Teams
  3. After F11s use F12's Patsy's Magic Bullet
  4. If cow - KTC with Patsy's Magic Bullet or just go on with your weapon at top left
  5. After KTC you both have to use your top left weapon anyway
  6. Use big maps.

Detailed

  1. You have to use the top left weapon every turn (F1s to F11s, even if you can't do any damage, only exception: If your opponent cowed, then see the possibility at 4)
  2. If all F1 to F11 weapons are gone continue with using F12's Patsy's Magic Bullet.
  3. The original Rowy scheme always has to be played with 2 Full-Teams (2x 8 Worms, otherwise the delay wouldn't work correctly)!
  4. If your opponent failed the first rule (and fell, skipped or used a wrong weapon) you are allowed to use Patsy's Magic Bullet if you think that could give you an advantage or just use your top left weapon (which is mostly the best decision).
  5. Be careful: After you played KTN/KTC (Kill The Noob / Kill The Cow) both of you have to go on with the first rule again! If you "lost" the game because of Rule-Breaking from your opponent it will count as your victory!

Map suggestions

Use big maps with a big ground and not too many plops. Just remember that the used weapons will probably create a lot of plop-parts and the Earth Quakes would shake several worms into the water then!

An example for an optimised one is RoGo which you can see here: https://www.tus-wa.com/maps/map-3922/

History

WO icon

Rowy was released on 17th March 2013 by its creator, DENnis, who had a huge influence of Peja in the process. philie is an important diffuser of the scheme, with a mappack, a variation of the scheme and promotions of the scheme.

Here is a quotation containing more details of the story of the scheme from the original release description:

"Peja and me (DENnis) were playing Plop War (Style - Funner) and I complained that Plop Wars are sometimes too lame because a lot of people only use the most effective weapons at Plop War (like Super Banana Bomb and Aqua Sheep) so I got mercy for the almost never used weapons. I said that it is bad that the most weapons never get used and that I think it would be a good idea to create a scheme where all weapons have to be used in a row. Peja countersigned that it could be fun to play a scheme like that so I thought over my new idea and how I could create a scheme where every weapon plays a role. It took a lot of time for me to set all the delays and testing to create a perfect version. Because of Peja's “Yes“ to my ideas and his support from the beginning, where he helped me a lot with testing, our new Quality-Fun-Scheme was born: Rowy! Peja advertised and shared Rowy a lot and we saw that there were more people who like to play Rowy."

There are at least 77 forum mentions for Rowy on TUS.

The scheme was featured in Worm Olympics tournaments: Winter 2010, Summer 2011, Winter 2012, Summer 2012, 3 times in Summer 2013, 3 times in Summer 2014, Winter 2014, 2 times in Summer 2015, 3 times in Summer 2016.

Cups

The scheme was featured in several The Ultimate Site cups, from 2013 to 2017, although, most of them were variants.

Similar ideas

Before this scheme

Clockworm Orange

Clockworm Orange is a scheme that is also centered on weapons being unlocked while the turns pass (progressive delay weapons). It was originally created by Team17, included in the console versions of Worms Armageddon and Worms World Party. Later, it was 'ported' to the PC version of Worms Armageddon in 2004 by Squirminator2k.

One of Everything

One of Everything was created by Run in November 2005 at the latest. It also has x1 ammo for each weapon of the game, but only some of the weapons are delayed (the more powerful ones), and just by a few turns. Three rounds must be won to win the match, and anti-stockpiling is turned on, so players must make their limited arsenal last for the entire match.

Power Prodder

Power Prodder is a scheme created by MB777, released probably in 2009. It also has many delayed weapons that are unlocked after some turns. The scheme uses RubberWorm features such as different gravity physics. The Prod is the only (infinite) weapon without delay and it can launch worms very, very far.

After this scheme

One Every Round

A scheme that seems very, very similar with Rowy (not to say the same scheme or at least the same concept) is One Every Round. It was published on TUS on 30th July 2023 by NetherstormSchememaker. Coincidence? It was inspired on One of Everything.

Only One

Only One is a scheme that has some elements of Rowy on its concept. It was released on 17th December 2023 by Kirill-Gamer.
