The Team17 forums were created by Team17 because they got banned from The Allotment and apparently creating a yahoo chat group doesn't go down too well on the internet.
Team17 staff members like to get actively involved in arguements and flame wars and lose because failure is the regional past time of Yorkshire.

Shortly after the announcement of the Worms Armageddon footbullet update the entire population of The Allotment forums, except for some fanboys, flamed team17 back to Egypt. Realising that they couldn't sue the entire community like Scientologists Team17 tried to hack all of the internets but failed because their achilles heel is computer science.
As a stunning back up plan some Team17 staff member posted gay pornography and as a result the whole of Team17 were shitlisted.

Being critically acclaimed childish whining hate mongers Team17 revoked The Allotments status as unofficial forum which was devestating because everyone obviously only went there because it was unofficial. Derp.
+
This failed because it was a stupid childish thing to do so Team17 came up with yet another award winning plan to lure visitors away from The Allotment. A Yahoo chat group...
Obviously everyone was super stoked about this, not at all offended and in no way inclined to spam the living hell out of it.

Eventually Spaedg was persuaded to part with some of his Worms XBLA wheelie bin money and fork out for a Vbulletin forum.
Bells were rung and backs were slapped at finally joining the 21st century and Wormsfiles and the #Wormsfags took this as a green light to raid the forum and spam it back to 1943.
+
A highlight of the raid was a chatlog posted by CheechLizard which included a drunken Andy Davidson flaming the crap out of Team17. Cheech went on to perform such epic feats of raidology that no username with the string "cheech" is allowed to be registered on the forum.

The remnants of the WormsFiles community still continue to raid the forum regularly. As a result of a particularly epic raid in 2008 Team17 turned on post moderation and all new members have their posts moderated.
+
This was not enough to stop the raids as a few posts in broken English posing as a sycophantic fanboy and a proxy in China is enough to get past the moderation and raid the forum all over again.
+
There is an interesting and potentially embarassing side effect to these raids, other than waking the modfags up at 3 in the morning, which the community and Team17 have yet to discover.
+
I wouldn't want to spoil the suprise but it's pretty funny.
