Total Wormage is the name of the build of the Amiga version of Worms that creator Andy Davidson originally showed to Team17.
To date, this build has never been released. Footage of this build was used as part of a very early trailer for the game in 1995. This build was also shown to the video game magazine show Bad Influence on ITV sometime that same year during an interview with Andy Davidson.
Notable differences
As no one has access to this build, it is difficult to list all of the differences between this build and the final retail release of the game. However, this differences can be observed in the videos:
- The HUD has a Total Wormage logo instead of the Worms logo.
- Camera movement is much stiffer, with no ramp-in and ramp-out.
- Gravestones do not bounce, but fall with a single solid thud.
- Some weapons have different names. For instance, the Ninja Rope is named the Batrope.
Legacy
- The Total Wormage build is was led to the game being picked up by Team17, ultimately leading to Team17's eventual publishing deal with Ocean Software and their emergence as a multi-platform developer.
- "TOTAL WORMAGE" (including the space) is used as a cheat code in the final version of Worms on the Amiga.
- The Total Wormage logo seen in this build also appears in Worms: The Director's Cut if the "TOTAL WORMAGE" cheatcode is used.
