+ | Well, I have two solutions. The first one, which I preferred, is to reduce the image size to 180px width, like [http://worms2d.info/?title=Sandbox&oldid=14625 this example]. (The table styles "<code>width: ??em;</code>" need to be removed to prevent word wrapping.) The second one is to increase the min-width of the #content box, but the resolution problem will arise again if the box is too wide.

+ | :I don't know. It's still quite different from the 2nd generation... gameplay seems closer to the 3rd 2D generation overall.
+ | :The dilemma regarding the scope of this website lies between inclusionism, and catering towards the great majority of its visitors (people who are interested exclusively in information about the 2nd 2D generation, W:A specifically). Frankly I think that having two separate wikis, one about Worms in general (like the one on [http://worms.wikia.org/ Wikia]) and another about everything W:A-related, would have been a saner idea, but it's probably too late for that now. --[[User:CyberShadow|Vladimir]] 15:49, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
+ | ::It was just an idle fancy. Personally, I like that this wiki covers the first generation as well as the second - it gives me a place to dump the excess of WormsDC knowledge swishing about in my brain, and it serves to preserve the history of the original games, which are more often than not forgotten these days (particularly WormsDC, which didn't sell very well and was an Amiga exclusive at a time when the Amiga had already been on the way out for a good two years). --[[User:Squirminator2k|Squirminator2k]] 06:33, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
+ | |||
+ | Perhaps, we and they can work together (?). I mean, we can focus on 1st and 2nd generation games while they do on newer (3D, 3rd gen, etc.) games. Then share the knowledge by linking to each other's wiki or just including the articles. --[[User:Explorer09|Explorer09]] 13:50, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

+ | == First generation icons ==
+ | |||
+ | In keeping with the theme of the second-generation, the first-generation has the game icons next to the names. Unfortunately as the icons were sourced from the Amiga versions - WormsDC being an Amiga exclusive and the Amiga version of Worms being the only version that ''had'' an icon - they don't quite look the right shape.
+ | |||
+ | I propose we replace them. The Worms icon could be replaced with the grenade from the logo while the WormsDC icon could be replaced with the clapperboard from the game HUD.
+ | |||
+ | Thoughts? | ||

+ | For small icons (16x16 or smaller), I think your idea is good (in fact thought the same as yours). But for the large icons, I think we should keep the original, since they are the official ones. --[[User:Explorer09|Explorer09]] 13:39, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

+ | == wahelp == | ||
+ | |||
+ | Sup guys :) I don't know how far along the FAQ and various guides have come on WKB since I stopped editing here, but I'm fairly certain wahelp has gotta be obsolete now, so I'm planning on taking it down permanently (it's out of date anyway; I cannot find the time or motivation to update it!)
+ | |||
+ | So you might want to go around and purge any links to it if you haven't already done so. Feel free to look through the scheme guides and copy/paste any info into your existing articles. The Team17 guide is perhaps a bit too long, but I'd hate to see it lost (I'm rather fond of that one ;)) so it might be best to stick that into a sub-page or something, depending on what your content conventions are. I'll put it in my userspace for the time being.
+ | |||
+ | There are probably a few stray links on the Team17 forums that could also do with removing.
+ | |||
+ | Wahelp has had a good run and been a lot of fun, but its retirement has been a long time coming. WSE on the other hand.... I'm hoping that has many more years in it yet ;) [[User:Run!|Run!]] 15:44, 1 October 2010 (CEST)
+ | |||
+ | :Hi, | ||
+ | :Unless it's a bother to you, I don't see any reason to take it down. Many articles refer to Nanacide as a secondary source, and in places where it's outdated the article usually has copy-edited and updated information. You could add a possibly-outdated-information disclaimer to the top of every page if you like, but if you really do want to take it down that's understandable too - in which case I'll probably just set up a mirror of the relevant pages or something. --[[User:CyberShadow|Vladimir]] 17:37, 1 October 2010 (CEST)

+ | == An in-depth custom Worms weapons/utilities part of the wiki ==
+ | |||
+ | I know the Worms Unlimited section has a lot of this already, but what I'm talking about would have much more content than that. My idea is that a "Custom Worms Weapons/Utilities" section be created, and instead of people submitting their custom worms item by only giving a description, they could also add an icon, damage readings, and other specific things.
+ | |||
+ | Think of the custom Worms item submissions section being just as specific and detailed as the weapon pages for the items that already exist in the Worms games. I have developed an application (or something like a mini-wormopedia) with this both fictional and existing content. However, an online source would be more popular. If anyone cares to see my application, the downloads links are below:

+ | [http://rapidshare.com/files/455792824/wormsweps.zip <b>Mirror 2</b>]
+ | |||
+ | Also, if this idea of mine were to come alive, people would have the choices of commenting on submitted items, as well as rating them, that kind of thing. Just thought it'd be an interesting addition. {{unsigned|Zippy|06:38, 4 April 2011}}
+ | |||
+ | :So, why not just add an infobox for subpages under [[Weapons (Worms Unlimited)]]? We already have a "detailed description" and "commenting" using the subpages and talk pages.
+ | :Keep in mind that, this website being a wiki, no one would probably object to you starting new pages and adding links to them from a few existing pages, but this idea just seems to me like duplication of efforts with a dose of [[w:Not Invented Here|Not Invented Here]]. --[[User:CyberShadow|Vladimir]] 13:25, 4 April 2011 (CEST)

+ | == Do we need interwikis? ==
+ | |||
+ | I think some languages will need their own sections of this wiki one day (with subdomains or /sections, for example, es.worms2d.info or worms2d.info/ru/). Just a thought, the localized pages are recently growing. --[[User:StepS|StepS]] 13:27, 31 August 2011 (CEST)

+ | :I agree, it would be nice to have other wikis for other languages. Having "/fr" at the end of page names doesn't look good. --[[User:LeTotalKiller|LeTotalKiller]] 21:46, 17 September 2011 (CEST)
+ | |||
+ | :Sorry, I don't think this is going to happen, for the following reasons:
+ | :* It's a maintenance nightmare. I'd have to maintain X more domain names and wikis / wiki databases.
+ | :* The *.worms2d.info namespace is already used by Worms-related projects and community websites. Colluding them with WKB translations would create confusion and risk collisions.
+ | :* The suggestion involves changing:
+ | :::<nowiki>http://worms2d.info/Page_Name/fr</nowiki>
+ | :: to | ||
+ | :::<nowiki>http://fr.worms2d.info/Page_Name</nowiki>
+ | :: That's too much work for simply moving a few letters around. If you don't like the language code at the ''end'' of the URL, use the following naming convention:
+ | :::<nowiki>http://worms2d.info/fr/Page_Name</nowiki>
+ | :If you pick a consistent naming convention (I see some people disregard existing conventions and just use the translated name), I can look into setting something up to automatically change the interface language appropriately.
+ | :-- [[User:CyberShadow|Vladimir]] 23:33, 20 September 2011 (CEST)
+ | ::The <nowiki>http://worms2d.info/fr/Page_Name</nowiki> sounds like a good idea for me. (Perhaps it's also easier to maintain.) --[[User:Explorer09|Explorer09]] 02:54, 21 September 2011 (CEST)
+ | :::Yes, it sounds good. However, English pages will also need their /en/, I assume? Compatibility (redirects) then...
+ | :::PS: if I really had a lot of motivation and spare time, then I probably wouldn't deny to become a bureaucrat of a localized wiki, however this would be still too hard (and sometimes annoying) for me. --[[User:StepS|StepS]] 17:23, 26 September 2011 (CEST)

+ | == Edit page protection ==
+ | |||
+ | There should be a protection when editing pages - closing the window/tab or clicking a link that doesn't open a new window/tab would give a notification where you'd have to confirm whether to leave the page or not (this shouldn't affect "Show Preview" however). It would be good to prevent losing all the text you wrote (for example, today I was writing a lot of data to the Sheep Glitch article and accidentally lost all what I had written - I had to sniff the data out with packet sniffer). Thanks in advance. --[[User:StepS|StepS]] 18:45, 19 October 2011 (CEST)

With that in mind I'd like to transfer Worst Shot Ever over to someone else, as I've lost the time and motivation to carry on with it. It's surprisingly a lot of effort! Its popularity has been declining anyway, but I'm sure someone will at least want to archive the site somewhere for posterity - and to preserve all the hilarious replays. I'd ask in the IRC channel but I've forgotten how to get onto it. So for whoever wants to take the reins, the entire site and all its replays (and various admin files that helped me organise it all) are in this archive: [http://nanacide.com/worstshotever.zip nanacide.com/worstshotever.zip]. Worms : Open Warfare
Rolling back Muzer's edit ("Well, it is about all 2d worms games...") - no, it's not. This is only about the 2nd-generation Worms games (the games made on Worms 2's engine). If your generalization would apply, then we'd have to add all other 2D worms too, including Worms 1 (incl. Reinforcements, DC and whatever variants may have been) as well - all this is NOT within our scope. --Vladimir 11:57, 5 December 2006 (MST)
Worms 2
Worms 2's "official" icon (the one used for shortcuts and the like) is the one on the CD, the blue one with IIRC a "2" inside it, I would upload it but I'm on my Wii at the moment, could someone else do it? Muzer 15:05, 15 April 2007 (EEST)
- Resolved (thanks Bonz). --Vladimir 01:23, 17 April 2007 (EEST)
Reorganisation
Games' pages
The games' pages should be split and organized into something like this:
Currently everything is just piled up here.
A "FAQ/troubleshooting" section would also be appropriate for games.
Lists
- The list of programmers/whatever is useless; people should be known by their deeds (program pages, etc). Also, it spawns some controversy (people that did a lot for the community but aren't coders are also important, etc.)
- Lists of things that apply to some games (e.g. software - some programs work with W:A/WWP, some only with W:A, etc.) should be merged. By each item, there should be small icons representing the games to which this item apply to
- more ideas?
--Vladimir 08:29, 23 June 2007 (MST)
- Yay for joint effort (even though I still had to do most of the work myself) :P --Vladimir 21:54, 25 June 2007 (MST)
Problems with resolution
The main page looks rubbish on things with a resolution less than 1024x768 (including 800x600 computers, windowed web browsers and the Wii), since the white table sticks out further than the "boundry". Maybe have it so the table wraps onto the next line, or the images shrink with lower resolutions, or simply make the images smaller.
- Known. Table cells can't wrap. The website was designed for viewing at 1024x768 or higher, which is appropriate today :) --Vladimir 19:16, 3 July 2007 (MST)
Definite standards
We need definite standards for weapon names which different people link to different things. Examples:
- Jetpack vs Jet Pack
- Airstrike vs Air Strike
- Firepunch vs Fire Punch
- Sheep Strike vs Confused Sheep Strike
- Mail Strike vs Postal Strike
- Carpet Bomb vs Mike's Carpet Bomb
- Bridge Kit vs Girder Stater Pack
- etc, the list goes on.
Muzer 14:31, 5 July 2007 (MST)
- It doesn't matter too much as long as the variations redirect. Oddly, the the game calls some weapons different things. Firstly there's the mouse-over text in the weapons panel, then there's the commentary text at the top of the screen, and then there's the mouse-over text in the weapons editor. In any case it's not worth worrying about it now - priority should be on content first, and we can deal with this later. Run! 00:20, 6 July 2007 (MST)
Copyrighted images
We're using a ton of those at the moment, eg screenshots of copyrighted software, logos, icons, boxart, etc. I think that at least that copyright should be acknowledged and the original author credited in the image description page. I'm not asking for thousands of license templates like Wikipedia has, just some acknowledgememt of the copyright and attribution of the author. Muzer 00:09, 8 July 2007 (MST)
- If you can be arsed, go ahead. I don't think any of the original copyright holders cares. --Vladimir 00:40, 8 July 2007 (MST)
I'd presume mentions of 3rd(that's when Worms returned to 2d, I guess) gen. titles are barred?
First things first: An incredibly large number of weapons from Run's Worms Unlimited articles were added in Worms: Open Warfare 2. Secondly, It seems pretty similar to the Worms 2 engine to me. Third off, and this is strictly unrelated, Worms on the DS recieved the butt end of the deal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IcePacks (talk • contribs)
- I don't think many of the WKB editors are familiar with Worms games released for platforms other than the PC. And the engine is completely different, many say that it's much worse than W2's. --Vladimir 07:45, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- As far as i'm aware the original purpose of this wiki was to document technical info that was useful for CS and DC working on the WA updates (and any other people working on third party programs for WA). But yeah, as CS said, it's also true that nobody here really knows enough about those other incarnations to write anything substantive about them. Run! 17:49, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Uh, I notice little difference between the one in Worms 2 and the one in Worms: Open Warfare 2. The one in open warfare 1 was rubbish. The only difference I see is a few added physics such as metal being thrown off by magnets. Worms still bounce off walls and slide about like they did in W2. As to the extent of said bouncing and sliding, I haven't taken the time to check. As with the familiarity, I understand completely. Since that is the case, we might as well drop it here and now. --IcePacks 21:01, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
AND non-Worms talk.
As far I am aware of, A Spore-Related Sonic game called F Sonic (Fort Sonic) is upcoming to the UK. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Belle3100 (talk • contribs)

robots.txt
It seems that the robots.txt in this site is set to allow web crawlers to index non-article pages. However, it was suggested that some dynamically generated pages should be blocked. e.g. Special:Search and Special:Random (See: [1][2])

Diffs in RSS
I've re-enabled diffs in RSS, so it's easier to keep track of changes and have less reasons to shout at each other for not entering uninformative edit summaries. They were disabled due to a MediaWiki bug when I enabled $wgEmailConfirmToEdit; I've fixed the bug locally. --Vladimir 17:52, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Please modify the default skin
Please add this to the skin's stylesheet:
#content { min-width: 573px; }
This will make the skin viewable in 800x600 resolution, and solve the resolution problem once and for all.
--Explorer09 13:56, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
Well, I have two solutions. The first one, which I preferred, is to reduce the image size to 180px width, like this example. (The table styles "width: ??em;
" need to be removed to prevent word wrapping.) The second one is to increase the min-width of the #content box, but the resolution problem will arise again if the box is too wide.

As the DS version of Worms Open Warfare 2 is built on the W2/WA/WWP engine...
...is it perhaps worth including it on the site? --Squirminator2k 05:33, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
- I don't know. It's still quite different from the 2nd generation... gameplay seems closer to the 3rd 2D generation overall.
- The dilemma regarding the scope of this website lies between inclusionism, and catering towards the great majority of its visitors (people who are interested exclusively in information about the 2nd 2D generation, W:A specifically). Frankly I think that having two separate wikis, one about Worms in general (like the one on Wikia) and another about everything W:A-related, would have been a saner idea, but it's probably too late for that now. --Vladimir 15:49, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
- It was just an idle fancy. --Squirminator2k 06:33, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps, we and they can work together (?). I mean, we can focus on 1st and 2nd generation games while they do on newer (3D, 3rd gen, etc.) games. Then share the knowledge by linking to each other's wiki or just including the articles. --Explorer09 13:50, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
First generation icons
In keeping with the theme of the second-generation, the first-generation has the game icons next to the names. Unfortunately as the icons were sourced from the Amiga versions - WormsDC being an Amiga exclusive and the Amiga version of Worms being the only version that had an icon - they don't quite look the right shape.
I propose we replace them. The Worms icon could be replaced with the grenade from the logo while the WormsDC icon could be replaced with the clapperboard from the game HUD.
Thoughts? --Squirminator2k 06:37, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
For small icons (16x16 or smaller), I think your idea is good (in fact thought the same as yours). But for the large icons, I think we should keep the original, since they are the official ones. --Explorer09 13:39, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

wahelp
Sup guys :) I don't know how far along the FAQ and various guides have come on WKB since I stopped editing here, but I'm fairly certain wahelp has gotta be obsolete now, so I'm planning on taking it down permanently (it's out of date anyway; I cannot find the time or motivation to update it!)
So you might want to go around and purge any links to it if you haven't already done so.
There are probably a few stray links on the Team17 forums that could also do with removing.
Wahelp has had a good run and been a lot of fun, but its retirement has been a long time coming. WSE on the other hand.... I'm hoping that has many more years in it yet ;) Run! 15:44, 1 October 2010 (CEST)
- Hi,
- Unless it's a bother to you, I don't see any reason to take it down. --Vladimir 17:37, 1 October 2010 (CEST)
- Hello :D Sure, feel free to mirror it all. There's very little on there that isn't over here though, I suspect... Run! 14:50, 3 October 2010 (CEST)
An in-depth custom Worms weapons/utilities part of the wiki
I know the Worms Unlimited section has a lot of this already, but what I'm talking about would have much more content than that. My idea is that a "Custom Worms Weapons/Utilities" section be created, and instead of people submitting their custom worms item by only giving a description, they could also add an icon, damage readings, and other specific things.
Think of the custom Worms item submissions section being just as specific and detailed as the weapon pages for the items that already exist in the Worms games. I have developed an application (or something like a mini-wormopedia) with this both fictional and existing content. However, an online source would be more popular. If anyone cares to see my application, the downloads links are below:
Also, if this idea of mine were to come alive, people would have the choices of commenting on submitted items, as well as rating them, that kind of thing. Just thought it'd be an interesting addition. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zippy (talk • contribs) 06:38, 4 April 2011
- So, why not just add an infobox for subpages under Weapons (Worms Unlimited)? We already have a "detailed description" and "commenting" using the subpages and talk pages.
- Keep in mind that, this website being a wiki, no one would probably object to you starting new pages and adding links to them from a few existing pages, but this idea just seems to me like duplication of efforts with a dose of Not Invented Here. --Vladimir 13:25, 4 April 2011 (CEST)
I see. Is there a place on this wiki that allows users to upload images?Nevermind, I got it. --Zippy 09:04, 5 April 2011 (CEST)
Do we need interwikis?
I think some languages will need their own sections of this wiki one day (with subdomains or /sections, for example, es.worms2d.info or worms2d.info/ru/). Just a thought, the localized pages are recently growing. --StepS 13:27, 31 August 2011 (CEST)
- I agree, it would be nice to have other wikis for other languages. Having "/fr" at the end of page names doesn't look good. --LeTotalKiller 21:46, 17 September 2011 (CEST)
- Sorry, I don't think this is going to happen, for the following reasons:
- It's a maintenance nightmare. I'd have to maintain X more domain names and wikis / wiki databases.
- The *.worms2d.info namespace is already used by Worms-related projects and community websites. Colluding them with WKB translations would create confusion and risk collisions.
- The suggestion involves changing:
- http://worms2d.info/Page_Name/fr
- to
- http://fr.worms2d.info/Page_Name
- That's too much work for simply moving a few letters around. If you don't like the language code at the end of the URL, use the following naming convention:
- http://worms2d.info/fr/Page_Name
- If you pick a consistent naming convention (I see some people disregard existing conventions and just use the translated name), I can look into setting something up to automatically change the interface language appropriately.
- -- Vladimir 23:33, 20 September 2011 (CEST)
- The http://worms2d.info/fr/Page_Name sounds like a good idea for me. (Perhaps it's also easier to maintain.) --Explorer09 02:54, 21 September 2011 (CEST)
- Yes, it sounds good. However, English pages will also need their /en/, I assume? Compatibility (redirects) then...
- PS: if I really had a lot of motivation and spare time, then I probably wouldn't deny to become a bureaucrat of a localized wiki, however this would be still too hard (and sometimes annoying) for me. --StepS 17:23, 26 September 2011 (CEST)

Edit page protection
There should be a protection when editing pages - closing the window/tab or clicking a link that doesn't open a new window/tab would give a notification where you'd have to confirm whether to leave the page or not (this shouldn't affect "Show Preview" however). It would be good to prevent losing all the text you wrote (for example, today I was writing a lot of data to the Sheep Glitch article and accidentally lost all what I had written - I had to sniff the data out with packet sniffer). Thanks in advance. --StepS 18:45, 19 October 2011 (CEST)
Russian time zones
Due to a new law in the russian code, all russian time zones now have +1 hour from their usual appearances without DST anymore. Thus, the DST settings and old time zones on this wiki are now incorrect. --StepS 22:35, 1 November 2011 (CET)
Worst Shot Ever
Sup guys! Long time no see. I haven't played WA in nearly 2 years now... good chance I won't be coming back any time soon (though I do still occasionally stop by this wiki just to see what's going on ;)). So for whoever wants to take the reins, the entire site and all its replays (and various admin files that helped me organise it all) are in this archive: nanacide.com/worstshotever.zip. Welp, thanks for the good times - catch ya later! Run! 12:29, 14 April 2012 (CEST)
ru links
Should I add link to Russian page on other pages? Like, I've created a translation to Main Page. And do I have to add it to other Main Pages' languages list? If needed, I've created a /ru shortcut to it. ~ Sealed 11:38, 11 June 2015 (CEST)
