Initial explosion has same characteristics as each bomblet explosion. Values are per bomblet. Sorted by total damage from all clusters.

The Mortar is fired like the Bazooka, except that the power applied to the shot is fixed at maximum (see also Pigeon, Sheep Launcher, and Magic Bullet). The Mortar follows projectile motion and explodes on impact, releasing a handful of cluster bomblets that also explode on impact. It is based upon, and replaces, the Grenade Launcher from WormsDC.

Tactics

Mortar can cause plenty of damage to both: the user and the enemy
  • The mortar can be used as a suicide weapon by firing directly down into the terrain beneath your worm, causing all the bomblets to explode together in a powerful blast. When next to (or standing on top of) the enemy, this can do significant damage to both worms.
  • When fired upwards at its steepest angle - which is not vertical - the Mortar will land a short distance away when it reaches the same altitude at which it was fired (approximately 240 pixels). This distance can be remembered, allowing this shot to be easily repeated with predictable results.
  • The mortar is designed to be fired upwards at a steep angle. The reason for this is because after it collides with the ground, the clusters that are released fly out in roughly the opposite direction the mortar was travelling in when it exploded. If it was fired upwards at a steep angle, then it will be almost falling straight downwards when it lands, causing the clusters to fall in the surrounding area. If it is fired at any other angle, the clusters usually end up falling directly back down onto the user.
  • For the reason mentioned above, the mortar is only designed to be used in open landscapes, as there is no ceiling.
  • When fired directly down into the ground, the clusters will explode simultaneously on the worm. This suicide move can achieve a lot of injury on an enemy if the enemy is caught up in the explosion.
  • Can be fired from Ninja Rope, Jet Pack, Parachute, and Bungee.

Criticisms, Problems and Weaknesses

  • The Mortar rarely achieves any significant damage by itself except in rare circumstances.
