A worm being on fire, as the name would imply, is a worm engulfed in flames. A worm in this state will appear with a red hue and have flames covering its body and the worm's name tag will flash orange. This effect works somewhat similar to poison, in that health is lost every turn, which randomizes between 5 and 10 per turn. In addition to losing health per turn, health is also randomly lost during a worm's turn (whether it's a different worm or the one that's burned). This occurs between 1 to 4 times with the damage ranging from 1 to 3. The effect lasts 3 turns.

A worm on fire can set other worms on fire by simply touching them, though only 3 worms can be engulfed, and there is a 30% chance per turn that a worm can do this. This makes the effect useful for damaging enemy worms with lower health. This effect will disappear upon collecting a health crate or using a medibuff syringe. Using a medibuff syringe however, will only remove the fire and not grant the buffed effect. Using freeze will also cancel out the fire.

Worms on fire will sometimes leave fire trails as it walks across terrain, and will explode oil drums and sometimes crates when touching them.
