According to Fluffy (an important Trick-Race-related player and the first to do map-replays to people know how to perform correctly the tricks), Trick Race maps existed before the year 2000 with small sizes and they weren't very famous. One of those early maps (pre-2000) was created by Stratovarius.

After a research made via messages on TUS (thanks for the information Fluffy, Nullum, DarkOne and Stratovarius), it was concluded that the author of Trick Race is Stratovarius with his map Stratospecial that was created as a special Rope Race map, and then over the time the scheme would become known as Trick Race.
