Since D is very similar in syntax to C-like languages (C++, C#, Java), programmers familiar with those languages should have very little trouble learning D. D introduces a lot of features over C++ which boost programmer productivity. It has full C and partial C++ linking capabilities, thus D programs can be made to work with most C/C++ libraries.
